Everyone is looking to make their photography stand out. It is hard to do if you are photographing during the day like everyone else.
But you can do just that by learning to photograph at night.
In a lot of ways, night photography is a new world that has really just opened up with the advent of digital – even more so now that digital cameras have improved so much.
So if you don’t have the budget to travel to all sorts of exotic places to take photos, you can still get stunning photographs just by going out at night.
So often, scenes that look nondescript and boring during the day turn dramatic at night.
Streetlights, neon lights, traffic, even the moon and the stars give you things to work with that just aren’t available during the day.
And the darkness lets you add effects to your photos that are off limits to the normal daylight shooter.
It doesn’t require fancy gear. And it might actually be a way for you to find the time to get out and do some shooting.
Think about it – is it easier for you to sneak off and get in some shots during the day, when you have a job, family commitments, and errands to run?
Or would it be better to get out at night after work when the family is wound down and none of that business is going on? Not only that, but your aren’t chasing fleeting glimpses of light at night.

Look through your photo archive and you’re likely to see lots of photos of two things — people and landscapes.
As a Landscape Photographer you strive to capture and share the beauty of the world around you, just as you see it through your own eyes. But there can be a big difference between a good shot and great one …
… and it’s likely you’ve only got one chance to make it count.
Living Landscapes will help you move past the point, click and hope approach to landscape photography. You’ll learn from a pro how to capture stunning landscape photos you’ll hang on walls – not hide in albums – by mastering the three key ingredients to stunning and engaging landscape photography.
You press the shutter, a moment in the universe is captured, and an image is created that will last forever. Your work is done….. right?
Or has the fun only just begun?
The decisions you make as you frame and take your photos are of great importance in determining how your images will look – but what happens after an image leaves your camera can be just as important.
The creative choices and opportunities in ‘post’ are almost as great as they are in the capture of the photo itself, and almost every photo can be improved with a little post-processing.
But where do you start?
dPS’s new eBook – Photo Nuts and Post is the third installation in the Photo Nuts series by professional photographer Neil Creek.
It tackles post processing head-on and gives you the tools and the courage you need to make it work for you.
If you’re intimidated by the idea of processing, don’t know how to make your photos look amazing like the pros, this is the resource to show you how to go from bland to brilliant.
The eBook includes detailed walkthroughs of processing some example images, including over an hour of screencast videos which walk you through a number of the techniques talked about in the eBook. These videos are hosted on a password protected page on our site – you may either view them online or download them to your computer/iPad/device for viewing at your own convenience. Photo Nuts and Post also comes with over an hour of extra bonus video tutorials to illustrate the principles taught in the eBook.
Whether it’s taking pictures of our friends, kids, partners or even ourselves – for a lot of photographers, people are what we’re looking at t rough the viewfinder (or on the LCD) when 1 we line up a shot.
We wanted to help you achieve your true potential as a portrait photographer, so we’ve released a comprehensive 84 page downloadable eBook (this is not a hard cover book – it is a PDF eBook) to teach you the secrets of stunning portraiture.
Portraits: Making the Shot is bursting at the seams with practical and down to earth portrait photography advice, tips and imagery. It has been created to do one thing, transform your dull and lifeless pictures of people into beautiful works of art.
We’re so confident that it will, we’re backing it with a no questions asked money-back guarantee.
This is must-have resource for anyone aspiring to take portraits with SOUL. Everything from the right gear, to the right aperture, to working with subjects. Here’s a sneak peak at what’s inside.
Each section covers an area of portrait photography with step-by-step instructions, tips, and tricks.
As a photographer chances are you’ve tried your hand at a few special effects. If you’re like most, the creative concepts in your mind were much more impressive than the end result!
Photo Magic will step you though how to create unique (and amazing) special effect images of your own. The type of photos your friends and family just won’t believe you took!
In this eBook 11 specific special effects are broken down so you can re-create the scene yourself, then Neil will explore new options to kick start your photography creativity.
Add a dynamic zoom effect with a slow shutter speed, and learn a super charged variation using your flash.
A spherical 360 degree panorama puts you there by showing the whole world from a particular viewpoint.
Create a romantic, magical or cool background for your night portraits with aperture masks.
Half a cup of flour, add three lights and flick hair vigorously for this dramatic action shot.
Sparklers, a sci-fi schoolgirl and some really nifty colour and light tricks create this dynamic light painted photo.
Stars twinkling above and fire sparking below lights up the beach in a dramatic combination shot.
Starting with a panorama, create whole planets with this super distorted, super fun effect.
Capture and freeze motion in the same shot for a striking effect by mixing flash and continuous light.
If two are twice the fun, eleven clones are a party! This multiple exposure technique is a unique way to tell a story.
Capture the majesty of the night sky as it spins eternally overhead with this surprisingly accessible star trail technique.
Then you might like to read this special note from Neil to help you decide.hotography is a creative pursuit. Capturing an image as it appears to the eye is only one way, and possibly the less fun way to create photos. Such is the way with special effects photography.
If you own a DLSR then you’re covered. The panorama effect does require a little bit of extra gear and the zoom effect needs a zoom lens – all of which is detailed in the book. Some of the shots can even be created with a compact, and there’s even a smart phone version of the panorama. But I’d say you’re going to get the most from this book it your camera has a manual mode.

It is very common for people to have shiny highlights/hotspots if they are photographed outside or if the temperature is high. This can be tricky but I’m going to show.
Everyone has various wrinkles, bags under their eyes, and blemishes, and editing them properly can be one of the most dramatic improvements you can make to a persons photograph. In.
This portrait has a different feel and far more blemishes in the skin so we will edit this image from top to bottom and correct everything.
In this image I’m going to show you how to use the often-neglected ‘visualize spots’ tool to quickly identify and fix blemishes.
Its nearly impossible to keep long hair in place in general but especially outside. I’m going to show you how I edit out flyaway hair from an image.

To start the course, we will make sure your camera is set up to take the best pictures possible and to allow you to focus more on creativity and less.
In this video, you’ll get an overview of the exposure process. That way, when we cover each of the separate exposure controls in later videos, you’ll have a basic understanding of how it all works together.
Before we get into the specifics of exposure, we need to take about how your camera meters light and how you can use that process for great results.
We start our journey toward great exposure with the simplest exposure control: ISO. You’ll learn how it works and how things have changed for this control in recent years.
A key to great photography is controlling depth of field, or now much of the picture is sharp. You’ll discover ways to control this process in this lesson.
We’ll talk about the final exposure control: shutter speed. You’ll learn how it is used and measured, and also about its important role in creating sharp images.
In this lesson, you’ll continue learning to master shutter speed, including using it to add effects like motion blur to your pictures.
You’ll learn how to control the focus operations of your camera and use it in different scenarios to ensure your focus is exactly where you want it.
Everyone wants sharp photos, and in today’s lesson we’ll review the things you need to do to get them.
It is easy to let distractions creep into your photos and in some cases destroy them. In today’s lesson you’ll learn how to avoid them in the field and also.
Thus far, you have used only natural light to exposure the photos in this course. Now we’ll add in flash, using a simple 5-step process.
In this lesson, we’ll continue with our use of flash. This lesson is full of additional tips for helping you control the output of the flash and ensure you get the exposure you are looking for.
Often times the best locations lead to the best photos, so in today’s lesson, you’ll learn some ways to find those locations.
Photography comes down to light, so you’ll learn what light to look for to create the best photos possible.
This lesson will show you how to establish a unified theme or message to your photo.
In this lesson you will learn a tried and true method for composing your photos.
Using a process called “back to front composition,” you’ll learn where to spend your time and effort to create compositions and avoid mere snapshots.
There are different types of balance, which we’ll cover in today’s lesson. You’ll learn how to add them as the final element to composing a great photo.
While there are many graphical elements you can use to compose your pictures, in today’s lesson we will concentrate on one particularly important one: the leading line.
In this lesson, we’ll cover some compositional issues that pertain more to shots of people, whether you are creating portraits, street shots, or pictures of friends and family.
You’ll learn an important lesson used by master photographers, and how to use it to create great photos of your own.
As the final cherry on the sundae, you’ll learn how to create photos that capture a decisive moment.
We begin the post-processing portion of the course by introducing you to the best tools to control the brightness values of your photos.
Most of the time you want to change only part of the picture (not the whole thing), so in today’s lesson you’ll learn the best ways to make selections.
One of the most powerful tools in post processing is contrast. It goes way beyond just the contrast slider, so today we’ll cover the best ways to add contrast to the whole photo or just parts of the photo.
A huge problem we all face is the limited dynamic range of digital cameras. In this lesson you’ll learn the best ways to deal with this problem and keep your highlights and shadows in gamut.
Today’s lesson looks at the best ways to enhance colors in post processing, without making them look toxic or psychedelic.
There are some simple but powerful tools for avoiding and fixing color casts in your photos, which is what you’ll learn in this lesson.
In this lesson, you’ll get some tips on the best ways to convert your photos to black and white, as well as some ideas on making them look their best after you convert them.
You’ll learn the best tools to eliminate digital noise and the best ways to use them.
Here are the 31 practical lessons that will get you out of Auto Mode
